Executive Board Meeting

Monday, September 8 -7:20 am  

Denny's on Southern/Country Club Dr. Mesa

Members Present: 

Ken Bond, Jeff Groscost, Mary Jo Vecchiarelli, Linda Ash, Joe Brown.

Members absent:

Fred Ash (had a prior meeting scheduled) 

Item #1            Meeting dates and times

We agreed to change the meeting dates and times to the first Friday after the first Thursday of the month. We will meet at Denny's at 7:00 am..

Friday           October 3

Friday           November 7

Friday           December 5

Friday           January 2 (this date may need to be changed due to New Years)

Item #2            Discussed the following points related to meetings

·      Length of meetings

Lets prepare a time-schedule and have the meetings last approximately 1-1/2 hours (not including the social time)

·      Elected Officials

Elected officials present will be given a few minutes to highlight issues that they think we should know.

·        Timer

We should designate someone to keep us on schedule.

·        Balance on the Issues

We would like to hear from Republicans who may have differing opinions on issues.

·        Topics

*Russell Pearce and someone from the Republican Party (Jeff Flake)

*Freeway Tax Panel Discussion with Gary Pierce, Don Stapley, Roc Arnett and Keno Hawker

Item #3            Young Republicans

District 18 would like to have a Young Republicans organization started at Mesa Community College. There needs to be at 5 students to develop a charter. They would meet at 6 or 6:30 pm the same evenings that we meet. Then they would join our meeting. This idea was not discussed - but we probably need to give this assignment to a precinct committeeperson to oversee.

Item #4            Latino Republicans

·        How do we get them active in our club?

Item #5            PC Recruitment

·    We have several vacancies in many of our precincts. Area chairs need to work with PC Captains to recruit PC's.

·    There are also PC's who do not attend the meetings. Precinct Captains (and if they are the one who are absent, then area chairs need to personally contact them.)

·        Our council member's should be invited to be PC's.

Item #6            Greetings and Registration Table

 ·        Discussion took place regarding several organizational concerns and the suggestions are as follows:

·        A greeter will meet members, guests and potential PC's as they arrive.

·        Someone needs to be responsible to assist potential PC's, completing the paperwork and obtaining directory information.

·        Updating directory information for current PC's

·        Name Tags

Item #7            By-Laws Committee

Members of the By-Laws committee have been contacted and sample by-laws from other organizations have been distributed. The first meeting was scheduled or Thursday, September 25 at 6:30 pm at the Mesa Community College meeting room. Galen volunteered to contact Dean Cooley and develop a more aggressive time-line. Anyone wanting copies of by-laws from other organizations should email Mary Jo at mjvecchi@cox.net or by-laws 

Item #8            Holiday Party

We will have a social activity for our December meeting. Jeff will work on this activity.

Item #10          Voter ID Training

Galen volunteered for this but  I did not quite get what it was. The Knowles were to help with this project. Galen, I read your email, do you need someone to go?

Item #11            Future Meetings

Sept. 25

Maricopa County Supervisor - Fulton Brock Maricopa County Health System and the proposed tax.

Jeff will try to find someone to speak against the Taxing authority the Legislators passed.

October 23

The Transportation Plan and Tax Panel discussion
